For me, a yoga retreat is not an escape from ordinary life, but a slow and tender way of returning to it — a way of remembering what it means to be fully alive in body, breath, and being. In Sardinia, where the mountains meet the sea, our days unfold in rhythm with the land. Morning practice cultivates strength and vitality beneath wide skies; evening practice is deeply restorative, grounded in awareness, and the quiet intelligence of the body. Between classes, there is time to rest, swim, wander among olive trees, or share simple meals prepared from the island’s abundance. The blue-zone landscape, where people live long and well, teaches us something essential about balance, joy, and the art of slowing down and appreciating simplicity. In winter, we gather in the warmth of 42 Acres in Somerset — an eco-retreat centre in the heart of the countryside. Here, we turn inward, rebalancing after the intensity of the year. The rhythm is slower, quieter: fires burning, nourishing meals prepared with care, and evenings devoted to reflection, meditation, and intention-setting. The stillness of the season invites us to ask what we wish to release and what we want to bring into being — planting quiet seeds in the dark soil of the year to come.

Returning to the Rhythms of the Island

summer retreat

My retreats are pathways of presence — gentle spaces to rest, listen, and begin again.
In summer, we gather by the sea in Sardinia, moving with the rhythms of light and land. It is a season of openness — of gathering strength and vitality, of reaching for life itself. The warmth invites us to expand, to breathe more deeply, to feel the pulse of aliveness in the body and the world around us. Through movement, stillness, and shared silence, we replenish the energy that carries us forward.

In winter, we meet by the fire in Somerset, turning inward to restore and reflect. As the outer world quiets, we return to our inner landscapes — tending to what is ready to rest, and listening for what wishes to emerge. Each retreat is an invitation to slow down and rediscover the quiet intelligence of the body — to breathe with the world, and the changing seasons, to soften into awareness, and to remember what it means to belong.

Inspiration

“Gillian is a truly inspirational and motivating teacher. I knew this from her classes in London, but spending a week with her on a yoga retreat in Sardinia was a very special experience. Through the individual attention which Gillian gave to me and every participant, my practice improved so much. I also made some lovely new friends as we chatted over gorgeous food and relaxed meals.

The silent walk to the beach to experience the sunrise was something that I will never forget. Thank you Gillian. I look forward to many more retreats!’ ”

I was feeling lost at the end of the year in 2024, and had no sense of how I would find a way forward. A friend suggested Gillian’s retreats to me and I found the courage to give it a try.

I can only say that it was the best decision of the whole year as I left the retreat after just three nights feeling refreshed, renewed, calm and clear and hopeful for the first time in a long time. I loved the yoga, the contemplations, the company and the food. I will be back!
